Wow, has it been an exhausting couple of weeks. Between working non-stop at my just-above-minimum-wage job, playing a couple of fun (yet stressful) shows with my band, and helping out with some general housework, my brain is fried. Lucky for me, I'm waking up in four hours and taking a nine hour drive to Maine, where I'll vacation for a week with my family on the coast. Since I'll be gone for the week, I thought I'd leave you all with a mix! Perhaps it might be more accurate to call this a miniature mix, but it's a mix nonetheless. These four songs are rather reflective of my current state, somewhere between a stress induced meltdown and the unabashed enthusiasm that comes along just before such a life-saving vacation. Crank up the volume and freakkk outttt.

Allie's Mix Tape Series #1

As I have said before, my first real introduction to music was through a series of mixed tapes that my sister, Allison, gave to me starting back about 5 years ago. That being said, I am going to start a series dedicated to her and the mixed tapes which saved my life!

My first installment of this series supplies a song that anyone reading this blog should already know. It's called "Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)" and it's by the almighty Arcade Fire. This was my first taste of Arcade Fire ever; I fell in love immediately and haven't looked back since.

Where the Wild Things Are

I was just informed of a marvelous movie coming out in October that I am now thoroughly looking forward to. The movie is based on one of my favorite childhood books, Where the Wild Things Are.

Famed author David Eggers and movie genius Spike Jonze are doing most of the work on this movie from the direction to the production to the screenplay. And on top of that Arcade Fire's "Wake Up" is used in the trailer!!! Take a look!

Cruisin' Song of the Week #14

This week's entry goes down as one of the most exhilarating cruisin' songs in the catalog, and while it doesn't quite have the head banging quality of some of the other songs, it definitely has the "group dance" quality to it. One of the many standouts from the unbelievably and unendingly brilliant "Funeral," it is the byproduct of an amazingly talented band with more energy than they know what to do with. Of course, Arcade Fire is made up of more than Win Butler and Régine Chassagne, but this picture is so brilliant I wanted to post it. Eerily reminiscent of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter in Sweeney Todd. And I mean that in the best possible way.

December 30th

Because it's been a while since any of us have posted anything, mainly due to us enjoying all of our holiday presents, I decided I'd break our silence instead of watching Frasier re-runs. It's December 30th, which means two things. First, we're only a day away from My Morning Jacket's concert at Madison Square Garden, which you all will get amazing coverage of. And two, it's the late Lester Patrick's birthday. Born in 1883, Lester was my fifth favorite Canadian hockey coach. Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1947, Lester was a fantastic player and a great Canadian icon. He's such an inspiration to so many, he even got a trophy named after him!


So in case you haven't caught on yet, Lester was just an excuse to get a post up, even if that trophy is something else. It is, however, a good enough segue into good things that come out of Canada. One of my favorite bands, which happens to be from Canada, is Arcade Fire. Because you've heard all of their songs, or at least should have, here's one you probably haven't heard that's taken from their 7" with LCD Soundsystem. It's French, it's upbeat, and I like it.

Trailer for Arcade Fire's Miroir Noir

As many people may know, on Monday Arcade Fire will be releasing their documentary on the planning and recording of their latest album, Neon Bible. It will include footage from the band in their Montreal studio, live clips, and even clips from the road.

The documentary was directed by Vincent Morisset and shot by the famous Vincent Moon from La Blogotheque (whom we all are a fan of). The video will available for download on Monday and will be released on DVD early next year. Enjoy!
