Remix time. I wouldn't have found this one without our good friend Liz over at The Blisslist. She's got a great blog that's got wonderful music and tons personality, you should really give it a read. Anyways, here's the Feist remix of "1234," that gives new life to a song that you may otherwise be tired of. Or not. Make sure you make it to around the 1 minute mark, when things really get going. You Forgot It in People came out seven years ago (wow), and one of the key tracks off that fantastic album was "Lover's Spit," a ballad as cynical as it sounds. Broken Social Scene subsequently released some B-sides from the album, including a breathtaking version of "Lover's Spit" sung by Feist which closes the EP and runs about a minute longer than the original. It's really a fantastic version, and Feist does it justice by changing it around enough to make it sound fresh. On a side note, I hope Feist comes back from her hiatus soon, because her originality is a great commodity to the music world.
The music world has recently received confirmation on what must be one of the most divine collaborations ever to occur within the wonderful world of music. According to a shitload of sources, Feist will sing a duet with Jeff Tweedy on Wilco's next album, which is expected to drop in June (let the countdown begin). Apparently Feist and the band met at last year's Grammy, both the band and she really liked the others' work, yada yada yada, now we have an official collaboration. The album is not finished yet, but Tweedy has said of it that he's "really proud of it" but had difficulty describing it and said, "...if I could tell you about it then I wouldn't have even made it. I just want you to hear it." Oh baby, I'm getting excited. Here's an example of the beauty that can come out of a Feist collaboration, from the recent Dark Was the Night album.
Sorry for not posting the last couple of days, but I had an English paper to write and other shenanigans like that to attend to. Anyways, let's get right down to it. I don't really like Feist that much, but this song is money. What's more money is the music video for it, because anything involving flying toast is great in my book.
The next two are oldies but goodies. First, this is just Hurra Torpedo playing probably the greatest cover of all time. Just genius.
And finally, The White Stripes make a ton of great videos, and this one is no exception. I don't even want to think about how long it took to make this.
In addition, I wanted to throw in a song that I've played a couple times recently. The last time a few of us saw Band of Horses they played this song, and no one knew what it was for a while, until it turned out it was a cover by an obscure band. It's damn good, and I thought I'd share it to celebrate Groundhog Day.
Continuing with the approximately-weekly remix post, I bring you yet another fantastic Feist remix. Chances are that you've heard "Mushaboom", the popular single from her older album called Let It Die. If not, don't fret. I've posted it for you. Also posted is the perfect remix done by -you guessed it- The Postal Service. Can these guys do anything wrong? I don't think so. The remix is bumpin'; it sounds like it would've fit perfectly on The Postal Service's album Give Up. I hope you like it. And I'm sorry I said bumpin'.
If you're a fan of remixes, you're in the right place. This is the first of my remix series, a weekly post featuring a remix that's been getting a lot of play on my iTunes. This first song is "Lonely Lonely," a remix off of Feist's 2006 album, The Open Season. Released in '06, it's an album entirely comprised of remixes and collaborations, and I highly recommend it. Almost every track is great, but this one really takes the cake. "Lonely Lonely" first appeared on Let it Die, as a mediocre track that was outshined by singles such as Mushaboom. This remix, done by a group called Frisbee'd, elevates the track to a new level by creating a whole new atmosphere and depth. I hope you enjoy.
